We don't measure up – we break the measurement

  • Bastion – Agency Studio Lab, founded by Brita Linvall and Alexandra Falagara in 2012, is a studio, a network and an artistic research project for feminist and norm-critical theory manifested into design practice. Norm-criticality involves the highlighting of power. For instance it implies to make visible and question norms that construct and support discriminatory attitudes and practices.

  • During 2012 Bastion redesigned the feminist magazine Bang using feminist strategies, to investigate how to transform feminist analysis into practice. The work with Bang has received awards and attention both in Sweden and internationally, and lots of graphic design work with norm-critical agendas has followed in it's wake. But what does this design method entail in practice?
  • In this lecture Bastion will show how the design choices you make can be "norm-widening" and how one could manifest power-critical theory into design practice.
